Throwback to my 30th birthday trip to Cancun

Jan 21, 2019

This post has sat in draft mode for far too long - but it's a memory I want to highlight here, so it's one I'll be hitting publish on. Ya know, my blog, my rules.
So, even though I recently celebrated 31..I'm still going to post this little throwback to the birthday trip we took to celebrate year THIRTY!

The Cattleman & I booked a trip to Mexico & it was so fun to celebrate my birthday with a trip! We had never been to Mexico nor had we ever experienced all inclusive resorts. We traveled to Cancun the day before my birthday (back in 2017), which meant I got to wake up 30 in a gorgeous tropical setting - talking about ringing in a new decade right!

We loved every minute of our laid-back, Mexico adventure. No timelines, no agendas...just sand, water, cocktails and good company. I love the memories we made on the trip & love that my Cattleman (then boyfriend, now husband) is open to travel.

The details of the trip + our stay--

Tuesday - Arrival Day
We had an early flight and since Cancun is a 3 hour flight, we were landed and to our resort by 10 AM. We couldn't get into our rooms but were able to use the resort, so we headed to brunch and after we changed into our swimsuits and started to enjoy the day! The Miami Vice quickly ended up being our favorite frozen cocktail. We tried out all the pools but spent most time at the swim up bar area this day. We had a BBQ lunch and then headed up to the room when it got overcast and relaxed a bit before dinner.

These sunglasses were forever crooked the entire trip - yay me

For dinner on night one we ate at the open air grill and headed over to the main bar for the evening entertainment..we were full + tired and called it a night early on day one.

Wednesday - 30th BIRTHDAY!!
Yahoo!! We woke up leisurely and he surprised me with some birthday decor for the room. Then we headed down for a boozy brunch. I got to start my birthday with tropical views + mimosas. Win!

Next I enjoyed a beer on our balcony before we headed down to the beach for the day. My tank + coozie swag was thanks to my friend Erika! Thirty & Thirsty!

We hung out on the beach and took a walk, lounged there for a bit then switched over to the pool with all the activities. We dined on the

Thursday - Excursion Day
We took a catamaran to go snorkeling and head over to Isla Mujeres. It was my first time snorkeling & I loved it. The island was stunning too!

Friday we relaxed around the resort and spent most time in the pool & on Saturday we departed.
We loved that Cancun was such a quick flight from STL & enjoyed our stay at a Riu. It's nothing overly lavish, but certainly a good option for a quick budget-friendly trip. I'd certainly return to this one or one in another location. I jokingly dubbed them the Applebee's of all-inclusive resorts.

there ya have it - a throwback to my 30th birthday trip.

  1. This sounded so nice! What a great idea for a milestone birthday. I definitely remember looking at the Riu when I was looking at CheapCaribbean.com when planning my and Sammy's trip to Mexico last summer. Will have to keep it in mind!
